
Disney’s animated “Zootopia” easily maintained its position atop the North American box office over the weekend, doubling the take of a chilling new thriller, according to final figures released Monday.
“Zootopia” earned $51.3 million between Friday and Sunday to retain the top spot and push its two-week total to $143.9 million, according to box- office tracker comScore.
The thriller “10 Cloverfield Lane,” which is produced by “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” director J.J. Abrams, debuted in second place with $24.7 million.
“Deadpool” won a tight duel for third place, collecting $10.9 million over the weekend, just ahead of “London Has Fallen,” which earned $10.8 million. “Deadpool” has earned $328.2 million in its five weeks in theaters.
Tina Fey’s wartime comedy “Whiskey Tango Foxtrot” completed the top five by $4.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 films of the weekend were “The Perfect Match” ($4.3 million); “The Young Messiah” ($3.3 million); “The Brothers Grimsby” ($3.2 million); “Gods of Egypt” ($2.5 million); and “Risen” ($2.3 million).
