An R-rated superhero film turned in a “mind- boggling” performance at the North American box offices, as“Deadpool” was expected to top $150 million in four-day holiday weekend sales Monday.

The superhero film shattered expectations and was the highest performing R-rated movie to ever open in the month of February, said movie analyst Paul Dergarabedian at comScore.

“Mind-boggling,” assessed Dergarabedian.

“Deadpool”  was part of a “remarkable, record-breaking president’s Day weekend … with an estimated $275 million for the friday through Monday time frame,” Dergarabedian said.

“Kung Fu Panda 3″ was in second place, in its third week of showing, with $26 million in estimated sales.

Two other movies debuted in third and fourth place: “How To be Single” at $20 million and “Zoolander 2″ at $16 million.

Rounding out the top 10 films in the U.S. and Canada, as estimated by the studios and collated by comScore, were “The Revenant” ($7.8 million), “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” ($7.6 million), “Hail, Caesar” ($7.2 million), “The Choice” ($6 million), “Ride Along 2″ ($5 million) and “The Boy” ($3.6 million).
